| In the third year of the pandemic, as many return to work, one group has not yet moved on: funeral directors. With Black Americans dying of covid-19 at 1.7 times the rate of White Americans, Black funeral directors have felt the brunt of the pandemic's deaths. At least 41 Black funeral directors have died since March 2020. And while funeral directors had to protect themselves from the virus, they also dealt with 12-hour shifts and the overwhelming grief of their clients.
