The White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency asked the Postal Service this month to reconsider plans to replace its delivery fleet with 90 percent gas-powered trucks and 10 percent electric vehicles, at a cost of up to $11.3 billion. The new trucks offer only a 0.4-mile-per-gallon fuel economy improvement over the current models. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is probing sudden unexpected braking in Tesla vehicles, the latest safety probe faced by the electric vehicle maker. Tesla owners flooded NHTSA's website with hundreds of complaints of alleged "phantom braking" earlier this month following a Washington Post report that noted a sharp uptick in the phenomenon.
